Should I get laser eye surgery?
I have 22 years of age, with an eye-1.25D and-1.5D in the other eye. Until now live with blurred vision, putting on my glasses from time to time when driving or reading the blackboard at school. I was thinking of wavefront-guided PRK, which seems less intrusive to the eye compared LASIK. In the eye of PRK seems to heal back to its natural structure (with the epithelial layers, etc.). Is not it? Here's the question: I can lose some vision night? or for higher-order aberrations? (My worst fears) Is it worth it for my correction? Are there other side effects in my level of myopia? If someone with experience would be greatly appreciated.
You have several questions. First, without the eye does not heal back to its normal structure with PRK. However, does little. That means changes the form of PRK eyes for tissue ablation of the surface and deeper. This removal of tissue permanently removes the basement membrane of the cornea (which attach to epithelial cells). This is not really an important question because the epithelial cells regenerate and attach fairly well in the deep stroma of the cornea. Thus, the basement membrane is gone but does not affect your vision. Second, many patients notice a decrease in their vision of night capabilities. For most, however, this is not a major problem. The higher your prescription (and yours is not very high) the greater the risk of problems night-vision time. Third, if your surgeon uses the custom wavefront technology, the laser actually has a better chance of reducing any higher-order aberrations cause them. Fourth, dry op position is a common side effect that is independent of the degree of correction. For most, however, this dryness is temporary. I have seen some patients, however, had pre op dry and disabling lifelong development dryness after surgery. If you do not have no contraindications such factors as large pupil size, dryness, ocular or systemic diseases, thin corneas, etc. that really sound like a pretty good candidate. Only your surgeon, however, you can say for sure how good you are a candidate because he will have all the information need to help make this decision.
