Lasik Side Effects Long Term

Is this a sign that I may have long-term side effects of Lasik, or is it normal?

I went to my office for Lasik, and the doctor said before having Lasik I have to add the eye drops frequently for about 2 weeks because my right eye is dry. Then I will go back and see if it improved, and is then when I go to schedule for surgery. I have fear to do so now because of the stories I've been hearing about dry eye after Lasik.

I would cautious about the LASIK done if you have chronic dry eye now without having had LASIK. Post op dryness may be a particularly frustrating and even debilitating consequence of LASIK. This can even happen to people who have not had problems with dryness before the procedure. The chances that you have major problems after LASIK are dry much higher if you already have some dry now. There are ways to manage post op dryness in some patients but management options are not very successful. The great Most of my LASIK patients are very happy with their results. I will say however, that patients have very few long-term chronic dryness are post op patients very unhappy. Just go to this with open eyes (figuratively) and realized that definitely have an increased risk of dry unmanageable due to the dryness of his course.

I am Dr Groden, a surgeon with LasikPlus. The pre-lasik examination is important to determine the health of your eyes and if you are a candidate for laser vision correction. About 20% of people who come in for this consultation are told they are not good candidates for the surgery and should not have it. At LasikPlus, the exam itself takes about an hour, and is probably the most thorough eye exam you have ever had. In addition to measuring your vision, power of your eye (refraction), and other tests often done during a regular eye exam, you will also have maps done of your corneas, measurements taken of the distortions in your eyes, and other tests needed to determine if you are a candidate for laser vision correction and what treatment is best for you. All these tests are quick and painless. At LasikPlus you will also learn about laser vision correction, including the risks of surgery. At the conclusion of your exam, a doctor specializing in laser vision correction will review the findings of your exam with you, answer any questions you have, and recommend the best options for you. Only then can you make an informed decision and decide what is best for you. If you are a good candidate this decision may be to proceed with laser vision correction or it may be to continue with glasses or contact lenses.
