How does Intralase?
IntraLase (also called IntraLASIK or all-laser LASIK) is a way to perform LASIK. LASIK corrects vision by reshaping the cornea – the front of the eye. But if that were to be done right on the upper surface of the cornea, it would a permanent correction. Therefore, a corneal flap must be created to expose the tissue below.
The cornea has layers, and the surface layer, the epithelium is continuously renewed. The cells are discarded and replaced by new cells, and this makes the epithelium unstable, as it is continuously changing its characteristics.
The second layer cornea, the stroma, is stable, and that's where the vision correction laser is made. A corneal flap – a thin slice of the cornea epithelium – is folded back for treatment, and then replaced. Is made with an oscillating knife called a microkeratome.
Requirements for a corneal flap successfully
